Rugby: Coláiste Muire defeat local rivals

Colaiste Muire Crosshaven Rugby team defeated local rivals Carrigaline Rugby team 15-8 in a close encounter between the two teams in the O` Gorman Cup at Mytleville Cross.

After 10 minutes, Carrigaline were awarded a penalty and took the lead from Dan McCarthy’s conversion to make it 3-0. Colin Curran then scored a try from a ruck and drove passed their defense to make it 5-3 with Sam Murphy missing the conversion.

Towards the end of the half a great 1-2 passing play from Sam Murphy and Evan Maverley linked up with James Twomey to grab another try at the corner for Crosshaven to make it 10-3.

Immediate impact from Crosshaven after just a minute into the second half as Evan Maverly was like a bullet going through Carrigaline’s back line, passing it to Colin Curran on the right to score a try to make it 15-3.

A penalty was awarded to Carrigaline was then taken quickly by Kealan Daly who was at the 5 metre line tackled down then a few phases later from that play, Kealan Daly broke their back line by barging through a tight area to bring hope back for Carrigaline has he scored a try to make it 15-8 with the conversion being unsuccessful.

In the final minutes of the match, Carrigaline pressed and piled the pressure on the Crosshaven back line but couldn`t break through and always just came short of the line and then Crosshaven turned over the ball and kicked it out of play for a much needed win over their local rivals in a intense match finishing 15-8.
