Amsterdam Art Tour
On Wednesday the 2nd of December a group of sixteen fifth year art students and teachers Ms. O’ Neill and Ms. Henshaw set of on an epic day trip to Amsterdam. An early start was had, with everybody meeting in Cork airport at 4am. The flight departed at 6 am and by 9.30 am students were enjoying Dutch waffles in the central museum area of Amsterdam city.
A fantastic tour was undertaken in the Van Gogh Museum, all students had the opportunity to view a temporary exhibition showcasing the works of Vincent Van Gogh alongside the artist Edvard Munch. In addition all students viewed the permanent collection of many of his life works.
Lunch was spent in the festive square of Museumplein followed by a tour of the stunning Reijks museum. The Reijks museum is one of the world’s most famous museums, housing more than 8,000 works of art inside one of the Netherlands’ grandest buildings. Here students viewed art works of the Northern Renaissance including works by Johannes Vermeer, Rembrandt Van Rijn and Claude Monet.
A bus was then taken to the city centre to do some shopping and see the beautiful canals and architecture of central Amsterdam. The flight home departed at 8.30pm and the group were back in Cork by 9.30pm. A fantastic day was had by all.
