Tuesday 15th March 2016 was the first nationwide Proclamation Day. The event has been described as a ‘once in a generation event’. The purpose of the day is to commemorate and reflect on the events of 1916. We did this through a selection of music, poetry and artwork, all inspired by 1916. In addition to reading the 1916 Proclamation we also read the Proclamation we wrote for a modern Ireland. Our flag was presented to Mr. O Brien by Diarmuid Lynch, whose great grand uncle and namesake, Diarmuid Lynch fought in the GPO alongside Connolly and Pearse. Mr. O’Brien then handed the flag into the care of the Student Council.
