First Year girls reach Cork Basketball final
The first year girls under the guidance of coach Carol Ann O’Driscoll have reached the Cork final. Having won their pool, they went on to defeat Carraignabhear in the Quarter Finals. They defeated a strong side form St. Al’s Carrigtwohill today in the semi finals.
The Crosshaven side went into an early lead through the scoring prowess of Rachel Stack. The Carrigtwohill girls rallied and there were three points between the teams at half time, Coláiste Muire enjoying a slender lead. Great scores from Katy Mulcahy and tenacious defence from Aoibhe O’Sullivan and Holly Fegan saw the girls go into a lead of 10 points, a lead which they maintained until the end. Emily Russel put in a strong performance while Gabriel Corcoran showed great vision in setting up several scores. Alana de Courcey, Kate O’Brien, Clara Neaves and Shona Mulcahy and Sophie McCarthy all contributed to an excellent result.
